Mulberry Contortions

£200.00

The initial concept behind this vase was to create a design that embraced the warping of wood. This came off the back of observing conventional ideas of woodworking and seeing a number of people being afraid of wood warping and splitting, with some of the opinion that it may ruin the piece. I wanted to therefore make a piece that was the polar opposite to that concept.

This was a single piece of mulberry burl that was cut into dozens of equal slices, after causing them to warp and then reconstructing the piece, its properties are now fascinating with it behaving almost like a conventional spring.

A truly unique Work with natures power right at the heart of this piece and the concepts behind it.

Approximate Dimensions:

260 x 90 x 90 mm
