This is one of 5 oak burls from the same tree I acquired towards the end of last year. I bought one blank and started to turn it when mid way through I realised I just had to have the other 4 they were that special.
It was an absolute pleasure to turn this piece, believe me when I say wood this nice doesn’t turn up often !
Each burl is very different in design and patterning and features, I’ve focused on the natural elements of each piece and haven’t shied away from what would usually be considered a defect from holes and cracks to woodworm holes.
This one in particular was turned part seasoned which means it still had moisture within and was allowed to move so it has lots of texture where the wood has pulled and moved and I love it. It’s incredibly tactile!
This piece is finished off with a metal tag of mine on the bottom. it is a pleasure to put my name to a piece I’m so proud of !
